Focus: Länderbank

In the past week, I have visited, photographed, and looked at drawings for many of Wagner’s built works here in Vienna. While I have had some difficulty finding architectural drawings of the buildings that are larger than A4, I have had no trouble finding collections of the architect’s sketches, small-scale drawings and theories. I am currently waiting to hear back from the Wien Museum, where the largest available collection of Wagner's drawings is located. Hopefully it will be possible for me to access some of his work through them.

I have chosen to focus my studies on the Österreichische Länderbank (1882) , which houses the banking hall and its corresponding offices. While the overall look of the building is very classical, it has many modern elements, symbolizing Wagner's shift to his own modernism, which started in the 1880's.
